There is a probable continuity of settlement between the oldest nucleus of Mirabello, the “recinto”, which rises on a modest hill in the center of a depression bounded by the Garavalde and Campostrina streams, and the fortified site designated in an imperial diploma of 1083 as the “castellum” of Mirabello.
Within the original settlement area, it is hypothesized that, over time, a distinction developed between the noble residence and a larger fortified space intended to host the population, that is, between “castrum” and “receptum.”
The Consegna di bocche umane e bestiami drafted in 1734, for example, mentions—in an order corresponding to that followed when moving from house to house to receive the declarations of the heads of households, the “consegnanti”—the following “contrade”: Piano, Balestra, Pero, Chioso, Fittaria, Motta, Barbacaneva, Ponte dei Bai, Recinto, Peschiera, Rovere, Sant’Orsola, Barbacana, Borgonovo, Martina, Cascine del Follone, Ronco, Cortella, Nespolo, Colombaro. The 1881 census lists the following “sections”: Recinto, Rovere, Pero, Piano, Madonna, Motta.
Within the Carolingian district framework, Mirabello was part of the comitato di Lomello. In 1069, Emperor Henry IV donated the place to the Bishop of Vercelli, confirming the donation in a subsequent privilege of 1083. During the 12th century, Mirabello came under the domain of the Marquises of Monferrato. Between the 12th and 13th centuries, an important patrimonial presence is documented in the territory, corroborated by the jurisdictional powers of the canonical chapter of Sant’Evasio of Casale.
From a tourist perspective, there are cycling and hiking routes starting from Mirabello and reaching the surrounding area along charming paths throughout the year. In addition, important events are repeated annually, such as Riso&Rose.
The Municipal Denominations, De.Co., are typical agro-food products of the territory, recognized—together with the Club del Papillon—for their quality, tradition, and connection to the territory.
