Castelnuovo Bormida
The exact date of this village’s foundation, along with that of its castle, is uncertain, though it is thought to have been established around 1120 by the bishops of Acqui. What is certain is that the castle and its settlement stood for centuries at the heart of events that shaped both the local area and Piedmont as a whole.
Frascaro
Frascaro, a tiny settlement with just over 400 residents, lies in the plains. Its name, meaning “branch” or “brushwood,” likely refers to the nearby Cereta forest.
Gamalero
Gamalero is a small municipality south of Alessandria, occupying two adjacent hills that rise just above 100 meters. The origin of its name remains uncertain, and no hypothesis is entirely convincing, just as the date of the village’s founding, which seems to predate the Roman conquest.
Oviglio
Of very ancient origin, Oviglio is situated between Monferrato and the Langhe, near the Belbo stream. Its Latin name was probably Uviilis, reflecting the fact that its inhabitants were traditionally engaged in pastoralism.
Sezzadio
Known as Sezzè until 1916, the village lies on the right bank of the Bormida River in the Alessandria plain.
Carentino
In the valley of the Belbo stream, a tributary of the Tanaro, at an altitude of 160 meters amid hills draped in vineyards, lies the small village of Carentino, home to just 330 inhabitants. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the entire Monferrato region.
Bergamasco
The village is located on the border between the Alessandria plain and the first hills of Monferrato, on the right bank of the Belbo stream, in a proudly unspoiled natural setting.
